National
Equine Sales/The Folck Agency
History
Officially founded in 1960 by Blair and Nancy Folck as National Quarter Horse Sales. It was conceived from a lifetime legacy in purebred Jersey Cattle sales. Blair’s father, Chester Folck, was a world-renowned master Dairy Breeder. He initiated and managed major Auction Sales for national dairy farms. Production - Dispersal - Consignment (since 1915). As the business and family grew, the name Chester Folck and Sons Jersey Cattle became synonymous with the World’s Highest Quality Breeding Stock and Sales. Blair was the middle son in the partnership that excelled as the Top Showman and glorified Athlete - receiving numerous awards. After 40+ years The Folck’s dissolved their interest in its own Record Breaking Dispersal Sale (1965).
According to the American Jersey Cattle Club, the Folck Family still is credited with breeding, raising, and showing the most National Champions (over 30).
A small breeding operation ensued featuring Poco Tinto, son of Poco Pine. Blair and Nancy have owned, shown, and raced some of the Quarter Horse breed's finest. They owned, named, and started IMPRESSIVE, the breed's pre-eminent Halter Sire. Owned and syndicated WHAT LUCK (TB) the only horse to sire a World Champion Quarter Running Horse and 2 Eclipse Champion Thoroughbred Horses. Also GO WITH THE WIND AAA Stakes winner, and sire of "Real Wind" All-American Futurity Winner and World Champion Quarter Running Horse. Plus owned six (6) Superior Halter Horses, eleven (11) Stakes Winners or Stakes Placed race horses, raised and raced most of them. They have established many successful owners, trainers, and breeders.
In 1964 Blair was looking to start an Annual Quarter Horse Sale that would have good facilities and location. He made trips to Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton in Lexington, KY and each told him it wouldn’t work in Thoroughbred and Standardbred country at that time. There were not many Quarter Horses in Kentucky. Then Blair went to Tattersalls. It had a great facility with all inside stalls and interconnecting sale ring, and at that time holding the best Standardbred sales in the country. Walter Gibbons was the general manager of the grounds, races and sales. Walter was a grand gentleman that took us right under his wing. When Blair told him that he wanted to start a Quarter Horse sale in Lexington, very quickly he said, "Let’s try it". When asked if he wanted a written contract, he said, "let’s shake hands, a contract is no better than a man’s handshake". From then on, almost anything we needed done was taken care of and that was our beginning of the TATTERSALL SALES.
The FALL TATTERSALL SALE is the longest established all ages & uses Quarter and Paint Horse Sales ever held! The Spring Tattersalls, Summer Tattersall, and Winter Tattersall Sales were added as demand increased by consignors and buyers. They all have been very successful and getting Bigger (limited 250 horses 1 day sale, 425 horses 2 day sale) and Better ("Higher Quality" - Select Session) each year as the Quarter and Paint Horses (national and international) have prospered to be Big Business since our first sale.
